Aphorisms
Some improvisation aphorisms:
- There are no wrong notes in music.
- Improvisation is the primary musical act.
- Music is nothing more than intentional time (usually but not necessarily filled with equally intentional sound.)
- Before finding the structure in the chaos first find the chaos.
- Let technique out through the front door and it will reappear through the back door.
- There are no wrong notes in music but some choices may be more effective than others. You get to choose.
- Work with the reality of fantasy.
- Try playing out of time and you may discover a new timeworld.
- Try playing out of tune and you may discover a new attunement.
- Suspend your own disbelief. Believe in whatever comes out.
- Improvise with INTENTION AND ATTENTION.
- Every sound has a purpose.
